Europe 2023 August 14th Day 11- Mevagissey to London

Last cooked breakfast at the Tregorran guest house this morning and like clockwork downstairs at 8.15 for our central table ( it was designated to us on arrival) and Lara then delivered the coffee and orange juice. Request as to what toast we would like with our cooked breakfast and then back with it in 5 minutes. The other two couples that had been here the previous three nights as well appeared like clockwork also the same procedure. Breakfast delivered, consumed and then the question, would you like more toast? Not this morning and as usual the eggs were perfectly cooked. Lara also bought our washing for us she had done the previous day while we were out,so we took this back up to the room to complete packing and on our way.
It had been a wild, windy, wet night and it didn't look any better this morning so no chance of a boat road down the coast from the harbour. We bid our farewell and into the VW chariot for a leisurely drive back to Plymouth.
Decided to have a look at St Ewe as this is where William Rundle was born around 1829. A beautiful little town with a larger than expected church, All Saints, St Ewe. Not much else other than a few houses lining both sides of a narrow road and the usual pub, The Crown Inn (what else) which appeared to have accommodation and fortuitously a decent car park to stop and have a look around. The break in the rain stopped so back to the car and continue the journey.
We proceeded on to St Austell and through Liskead before finally getting to Saltash, the town on the cornish side of the Tamar river from Plymouth. A noteworthy place for the connecting iron bridge by the famous engineer Brunel that was completed in 1859 connecting the two towns.
Had our last cream tea in the bookshop cafe before heading across the river. A little slower than expected as it had been reducted to only 2 lanes and had to stop for toll. Once across proceeded to find a servo to fill the chariot before it's return and just returned to the hoe to have a look around Plymouth harbyone more time. Now it was sunny and warm, so decided to taxi to the railway station rather than the half hour walk.
Getting a little earlier than expected it was wonderful hear that the GWR  3.15 we were catching to Paddington via Taunton had been cancelled due to an issue with the train and congestydue to those bloody kids returning from Boardmasters. I'm really over the bloody youth enjoying themselves 😂. So change of plans and this is the beauty of travelling by rail. Onto the 2.48 to Exeter St Davids and then change trains and catch the 4.15 to Paddington arriving at the same time as the original journey. So this all went smoothly to plan except the Exeter to Paddington train had been reduced from 9 to 5 carriage, but Jane and I got two seats together, luggage stowed and all was good with the world. Due to major disruption on the network we were 15 minutes late, then 30 and finally 45 minutes late but at our final destination so all good. Came into Liverpool Street station which was such a beautiful station, just like all the major stations in the UK, I really adore the architecture from this era.
From here we got onto the tube and the oyster cards from 6 years ago still worked so soon we were at Baker Street station and a quick 5 minute walk to our new abode, the Marylebone Inn hotel, Westminster. Not as good as the others so far, but lots room with seperate bedroom, lounge and bathroom which is always a good thing 😂. Dumped our gear and headed out for a quick walk and to find some dinner as it was almost 8pm. Ended up being lazy and stopped at a pizza place which looked a bit average, but the pizza was great, beer was cold so what more could we want. It was a tired walk back to the hotel and into bed after another long day. Any day away is better than work they say, god damn right there I say 😂
