Europe 2023 August 25th Day 22 - Glasgow and Banksy

Up at 7am this morning after a very good sleep in a very comfortable bed. Downstairs for Breakfast which ended up being only my second eggs Benny for the trip and was a very good one with freshly made hollandaise sauce. Jane had the porridge with chia seeds and said it was good. Quick tidy up and down to the GOMA to join the queue for walk up tickets for the Banksy exhibition. OMG massive queue already of a few hundred people at 8.44am and it doesn’t even open till 9. Apparently people start queuing at 6am as all online tickets are sold out (as we found out).

After half an hour of not going far in the Iine I wandered off to walk the streets of Glasgow and soon returned to find Jane had given up as well. Earliest ticket were for midnight or later and we weren't going to do that. We walked to the square and a grabbed a one day pass for the Hop off Hop on bus and were soon on our way. As usual for this UK trip, cool, windy and damp and soon we stopped at the Transport Museum in the most magnificent designed building by Dame Zara Hadid. What an absolute treasure. Cars, buses, trams, trains prams and anything else you can think of related to transport laid out in a most enjoyable layout, brilliant.

Scone and coffee before head we off to the new Clyde distillery and then back on the bus to continue the journey. Glasgow is certainly a city of old derelict and new and we got off at the old Anderson area where we found a small cafe up a laneway for a little lunch. Once again a sandwich consisting of half a loaf of bread and kilo of cheese 😂 just lovely but upward spiral of calorie consumption continuing at rapid rate. More rain and rather than getting on the bus , grabbed a cab across river to the Burrell Collection as recommended by Andrew.

Arrived in a park and setting to a modern building housing a unique art and antique collection gifted to the city by a shipping tycoon. At the end of the couple of hours spent here, can honestly say one of the best I have ever been to in the world, just amazing. If you ever go to Glasgow do not miss visiting collection.

Left on closing and grabbed the free electric bus to the Pollockshaws West railway station back to Central and then made our way back to the hotel. No time for a nap today so off looking for a bit of dinner and ended up at the Butterfly and Pig where we enjoyed a good meal,

couple pints and a wee dram to conclude a fun filled, exhausting and extremely satisfying day. Now back to the room to pack ready for an early start in the morning to Lisbon.
