Europe 2023 August 18th Day 15 - Queensferry and the Tattoo

After an eventful night with Jane being unwell, everyone slept in till 8.45am so I think a sleep in was needed. Had a bit of breakfast and then Isabel and I left for a little adventure while Jane stayed and recuperated. Put a load of washing in and off we headed in the Italian stallion towards South Queensferry. A lovely ancient town on the forth river (Edinburgh side) with views of the 3 bridges that cross the river.

Had a great walk around this town and had a stop for the best apple friangipane tart and coffee. Bit more look around and some more photos before heading back to Larbert. We all a little lunch ( leftover burger for me) before driving to the train station for the 40 minute ride to Waverley station.

Once in we headed up the Royal Mile just looking and taking in all that is there. A mass of people were around due to the festival and the tattoo being on so we seperated for a of couple hours and went our ways. If you ever get a chance it is an amazing area with so much history jammed packed into a small area, well worth it. Purchased a rain poncho for evening as rain was threatening.

We rejoined at the Adams statue ( not the Paul statue as said) and went to buy some cheese and bread to take into the castle stadium with us and then started the line up procession. In such a narrow area it was reasonably well organised for the thousands that were going and it didn't take long to finally get into the stadium. Quick beer and water purchase and off to our seats. Section 3, Row V, seats 5-7, excellent position and well done Jane. Not something I ever thought I would attend and certainly not on the bucket list but just coincided with our visits and therefore why not.

The performance commenced on time ( unlike some of the usual latecomers 🤬) and was spectacular. The band's from Trinidad, Switzerland and Denmark were brilliant, as we're all the others and and hour and a half later it was over and time to leave. We did the 6.15 early show so probably the fireworks weren't as impressive in the evening light as they would have been in the darkness of the later performance but still a brilliant experience. ( Major gripe, if you can't sit for 90 minutes without getting up , don't F.#$_@$$ go, rant over)

We wandered down the hill with the throng to Waverley station and had to wait about 45 minutes for the 9.03 back to Larbert. Grabbed a couple things for tomorrows breakfast and once back at the station jumped in the Italian stallion for the couple minute drive home. A lovely day all round and Jane feeling a lot better, a little food poisoning we think, even though we ate exactly the same, go figure 🤔
