Bilbao Day 16, 10th September 2013

Left Pamplona this morning, catching a La Union bus to Bilbao, a slightly less than 2 hour trip, a good thing to do when feeling slightly seedy thanks to the Irish and obviously receiving no sympathy at all from my traveling companion. :-)
Arrived to a rather damp city, which continued all day, and found a hotel ( another Petit Palace , the Arana) booked at the tourist information center as we hadn't booked anything for tonight. Lovely old building with large room by European standards and modern, situated in the old part of the city.
After a quick lunch, off to the Guggenheim museum, the purpose for visiting here as I've long wanted to see it. The building is spectacular, even on a grey , dreary wet day. Art collection was very ordinary as I had previously read, but made up for by the building itself an art work.
Then a walk around the city, which is quite beautiful and would be lovely on a fine day. Even got a trip in on the tram.
Then time for much needed siesta before heading out for dinner to the Victor Montes restaurant as recommended to us by Mr Carter. Was great and glad we did it, then on the way back to the hotel, we found their shop and wine cellar which consumed some more time. Back to hotel to finish off the last of the sherry and an early night.
