Our second day in Seville didn't quite work out to plan as we did not arise from slumber till 9am. Brekky and off we go walking thru the narrow streets ( got to find out what these circles are on the bottom of walls) and down to the Jardines Catalina De Ribera parlance where we got into a horse drawn buggy for a tour of the old city.
This was a lovely hour spent if a tad expensive but worth it as it seems to fit with the feel of the old city.
Then onto the Plaza De Toro y Museo de la Real Maestranza de Caballeria, bullring and museum. No matter what your thoughts are about bull fighting this was an excellent tour of the place and history of bull fighting in Spain. This is still a working bullring but not on till end of September. Good bullfighters can earn up to $300,000 euros a fight. Might just be a bit old to learn. :-)
From here of course customary tapas and cirveza for lunch and then wandered to the Metropole Parasol, an astounding engineering feat and lovely view of the city from on top. Underneath were some roman ruins uncovered when excavating the site but couldn't get in to see them as the girl at entry office too tied up texting on phone to care about patrons.
Back to hotel for siesta .
After little break and some clothes washing in the sink, off down to the Rio Guardalquivir and dinner on the banks for my birthday watching the sun set. NOTE QLD hot here too but with daylight savings doesnt set till 8 and still lovely at 8.30, gorgeous. Great calamari and goats cheese with honey, excellent. Maybe too much cheese so far but who cares. Then a wander around gypsey side of town and back to hotel as up early tomorrow and day trip to Alhambra in Granada. Got a lovely bottle of Pedro Ximenez on the way back to consume over the next few weeks.. Adios.
I'm putting on weight just reading about all the wonderful food and drink!
