Bugger off Barcelona, hello Pristine Pamplona.
Up early and on the Metro to main train station to catch the train to Pamplona. Not unhappy to leave Barcelona and see some more of Spain. Train trip was great with massive changes in the countryside over the 4 hour trip. Still cant Quite believe the amount of wind generators and solar farms dotted around the landscape.
Arrived to a quaint station after 4 hour trip and quick taxi to hotel to drop off belongings before hitting the pavement (read cobblestone) What a magic place, beautiful and clean with lovely friendly people and what looks like great bars and tapas.
We hit he jackpot and arrived on a festival day with steer parades of large characters. It was to celebrate the union of 3 walled towns to form Pamplona. Great fun with medieval stalls selling lots craft and herbs , potions etc. Had a drink and sausuage on bread. Cider was awful (organic, need I say more) and lovely red from the local region, Navarra. Even had falcons etc. Went walking around the old city which is an old fortress, citadel. It is an amazing structure and beautiful stroll in early 20°C just a great day. Time for siesta.
Back out for dinner and walk before retiring for the evening about 11, glad to have found Pamplona and it doesn't need the bull run, just lovely as a city.
The rants and ravings of a guy who has a love of Tasmania, golf, wine, food and photography. My wife Jane is an amazing textile artist/quilter (http://quiltingjane.blogspot.com.au/ ) and we have two great kids who one day will leave home, hopefully.
