Tours Day 21, 15th September 2013

Well much nicer to awaken to a fine day today after yesterday's rain. Still a bit overcast but patches of sun which continued all day without precipitation. Did I mention we had a romantic room, only thing is the third floor with no lift and very narrow stairs. No exterior fire escape and no way would be allowed in Australia but brilliant.
After brekky was a walk around and then off to the bike hire shop to grab a couple for the day. Took a little longer than expected due to loud winging Americans that weren't happy with the bikes, the helmets, the seat height etc, you get the drift.
Finally on our way towards  Amboise along the beautiful Loire river. Rode for about 14 km before stopping at La Mountlouise for a drink and some packed lunch, bread and goats cheese of course, then a little further along till Chateau La Barre, which isn't open, where we ran headlong into a bikerace. We then turned around to head back to Tours.
On the return we stopped at a winery which is one of the many 'caves' in this region carved into the limestone to create cellars and even housing. Absolutely fascinating, and the bubbles and Sauvignon blanc were damn fine as well.
Headwind all the way back, but when we arrived we were in the middle of an bio organic festival/market. Stopped for some food and wine which was all nice and a wander around before getting back to the hotel at 5.30. A long day.
Jane went to the Laverie to do the laundry while I walked both bikes back to the hire place for return. After that it was rest time then out for some dinner before retiring. Nothing exciting this night I'm afraid as we finally broke and just had some pizza and pasta around the corner. With local Chinon red of course. :-)
