This morning a little slow as we set alarm for 7 to go to Versailles, but not looking too good outside, so decided to put back a day and do art galleries instead. A good move.
Caught the metro to Musee Rodin. This was the old Hotel Biron which he rented from the French government and left his works to, if they created a museum. It is lovely, however going under renovations, which it badly needs, so a number of parts were closed. Still good though and will be great when all restored. Still saw his classics though.
Little walk to the Musee D'Orsay down the road and might have even seen a ray of sunshine on the way, either that or the wine has kicked in.:-) This was amazing, old New Orleans railway station transformed into the most magnificent art gallery. Sorry no photos as not allowed, but if in Paris, do NOT miss this highlight. Saw Monet, Manet, Van Gough, Cezanne, Renoir, Degas, Lautrect, Gauguin, ........... it just didn't end in the most magnificent vessel in which to view them. BRILLIANT.
Left tired and needed sustinance, so across to cafe for soup (French onion of course) with a little vino, before heading back into the D'O to catch a bit more. The museum pass we bought for 4 days is great and allows this.
We then decided to seperate and Jane went shopping, while I returned to the Louvre for a few more hours to see some more. Had to see Mona Lisa and did, pushing my way to the front and some other things. All good now so probably won't return. Then it was back to hotel to share a bottle of champagne and some nibbles to celebrate a dry, not freezing day. :-)
Later went out for a walk, where somehow, Jane was able to buy more clothes before stopping at a cafe for a late dessert and red before returning to hotel for the evening. Definitely going to Versailles tomorrow, fingers crossed.
The rants and ravings of a guy who has a love of Tasmania, golf, wine, food and photography. My wife Jane is an amazing textile artist/quilter (http://quiltingjane.blogspot.com.au/ ) and we have two great kids who one day will leave home, hopefully.
