Up and off to Notre Dame this morning with a stop for coffee on the way. Many people there upon arrival, buth thru quickly and lucky for a service to be in progress. Impressive building with lovely stained glass windows but not as imposing as I expected, still good though. Now to all those idiots that can't read the signs every 5 m saying silence and No flash, how about a bit of respect for the people and place. There said it. :-) , now onto to Centre Pompidou stopping for crepes and coffee on the way.
This is the museum of modern art and has a great collection of Dada, surrealism, etc art works, but guess what, that floor closed till October 29. However temporary Roy Lichtenstein exhibition on and Brilliant. !!! Paintings, sculptures, ceramics and drawings, couldn't have asked for more. Very happy.
It was then time to have some lunch, as it was 3 pm ( steak for me and duck for jane, accompanied by rose of course ) before heading via Metro to montemart area to book tickets for Moulin Rouge. Could only get for 11pm show tonight so going to be a long day. We the walked up to Sacre Coeur via way too many steps for young lady with sore knee to get a great view over the city. Didn't bother visiting the church though as as little catherdaled out. Then wandered around till we finally found the Dali museum, Espace Dali Montemarte. Very good but a bit overshadowed by the Lichtenstein exhibition. It was now 6 so back down the hill for a quick Metro trip back to the hotel to rest for a little before tonights show.
Was told to be there at 10.30 to get tickets so we headed out a little earlier via the metro to Montemarte for a small bite before the the show. Found funky little place called Le Epoque Brasserie; well Jane had a salad and I had the SMALL burger and I think we could have fed a party of 6 with the size of the meals, thank god I only ordered a small beer with it.:-)
Amazing line for the Moulin Rouge that snaked down the street and we finally started entering at 11.20 with the show starting about 11.45. Fantastic, fun and over the top. Snakes, ponies, acrobats, ventriloquist and of course the necessary dancing girls. A really enjoyable time that concluded about 1.30am. Well worth it and glad we made the effort to go. Sorry Paul no photos allowed.
Metro back to the hotel and finally retired after 2am, long, exhausting and thoroughly enjoyable day. No early rise tomorrow, I can tell you, remembered to put out don't disturb sign. :-)
The rants and ravings of a guy who has a love of Tasmania, golf, wine, food and photography. My wife Jane is an amazing textile artist/quilter (http://quiltingjane.blogspot.com.au/ ) and we have two great kids who one day will leave home, hopefully.
