That bloody alarm went off at 7 again this morning. Off to Versailles today, no tour just taking the train there and doing it ourselves. After brekky in bed again, simple pastries with coffee ( kettle here) and juice, its off to the station to catch the Metro and then the train too Versailles. Arrived just before 10 and huge line already, past security and then kaos. Way too many people pushing and blocking and ignorant, etc. After a while just trying to get through we just went to the restaurant for coffee and cake to chill out ( €30 worth mind you !!! ) where even the guy on the next table snorted, and I do mean that guttural snort every 10 seconds the whole time. Cocaine user was my guess.:-) The palace is grand but not enjoyable like that, so left and went into the gardens.
WOW.
We spent the rest of the day wandering around all the gardens, the farm and Marie's little :-). Enclave before finally heading back to the palace at 4.30, even had a hot potato with a small bottle of rose on the lawn for lunch, just superb. You cant imagine the scale of Versailles until you are there, and the vision that was had by people to create it is incomprehensible. The gardens were simply stunning and a whole day is really not enough time. Without the crowds the palace is beautiful but I think I'm a small town guy at heart and some ethnic persuasions have no sense of personal space, manners or etiquette, enough said.
We then went into the town and had a cool, refreshing beer at a pub, as unlike previous days it was a sunny 20°c and NO rain :-) We bought some lovely bread, cheese and jamone from the local shops to have for dinner before heading back to the train station to return to Paris.
The trip back was fine, except plans went astray when they closed our connecting train due to either, death or bomb scare at the platform. Lots of police with weapons suddenly blocking off access to the stairs down to our platform and then ushering everyone on the platform back up stairs, which included us. Oh well, with the metro it was easy to find another way back which I did and we arrived back at the hotel at 6.30.
Dinner from our purchases with vino on the bed and I'm afraid just an early night after a long and exhausting day.
The rants and ravings of a guy who has a love of Tasmania, golf, wine, food and photography. My wife Jane is an amazing textile artist/quilter (http://quiltingjane.blogspot.com.au/ ) and we have two great kids who one day will leave home, hopefully.

Before I can make a definitive decision regarding whether the first photo counts, I would need to see many more examples, so that I can do a thorough analysis before making an informed decision. Liking your work.
ReplyDeleteI think it's time to come home. You're getting silly now!
